Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has undergone surgery for pancreatic cancer.
Officials say the 75-year-old jurist will spend the next week to ten days at a cancer center in New York.
The court says the tumor was found during a routine physical last month.
It says the cancer is in its early stages and that the tumor was about a centimeter across.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly cancers with fewer than 5 percent of people surviving for five years.
However doctors say that’s mainly because the cancer isn’t typically caught early enough, like it appears Ginsburg’s tumor was.
This isn’t her first brush with cancer.
She had surgery for colon cancer ten years ago and underwent chemotherapy and radiation as well.
Ginsburg recently said she had no plans to retire any time soon however she made that comment before this latest diagnosis.
